More Than the Average of Your Friends
You are the average of your five closest friends. If you haven’t heard this before, I believe it is worth thinking about.
If you hang out with people who are unhealthy, you have a good chance of becoming unhealthy.
If you are around people who are driven and desire to reach their goals, guess what, you will do the same.
Now, I know some of you are thinking, that only applies to people who are weak minded.
“I don’t allow people to influence me, I make my own choices.”
Yes, this could be true but whether you like it or not, over time, the people you hang out with will eventually influence you in some way.
I also feel it is important to surround yourself with people who not only believe you but will hold you accountable.
Pushing you to overcome your obstacles in a demanding but supportive way.
What you don’t want are people who are two faced, jealous types that always doubt you.
I personally struggle with self doubt on a daily basis. The last thing I need is another person telling me I am not good enough.
Life is too short, distance yourself from these people as fast as you can.
Now the other side to this is viewing it from a different perspective.
Your closest friends are the average of YOU.
So instead of thinking about yourself first, you first think about your friends and family.
If you often struggle with finding motivation to do the not so fun things you know you need to do, try looking outwards instead of inwards.
Make better choices with your eating habits so you can lead your best friend to a healthier lifestyle.
Work hard so you can be an example for your brother or sister.
Push yourself to reach your most outrageous goals so you can give your loved ones a better life.
So while it is important that you choose your friends wisely, it is equally important to live a better life for the people around you.
Now stop wasting time and get to it.
